Story #1:
When we were dating, I told my haole-husband-to-be all about my grandparents, Obaasan and Ojiisan (my mother’s parents). After we were married and trying to make a good impression, my husband started to talk to my mother about my Obesan. It was very, very funny!
Story #2:
My haole husband and I met and married on the east coast. For our honeymoon, we went to Oahu where my relatives hosted a second wedding reception. My father ended his toast with a chant of “kill the haole, kill the haole” in which everyone joined in and laughed. My husband was busy looking around trying to figure out what a haole was!
