Hi,
A friend of mine stumbled onto this website recently and forwarded it on to me, I love it – I live in Oregon and so the term Haole isn’t well known around here so we were going to start something similar until we ran across your website and found that something already exists for folks with white husbands! (As you might expect Oregon is full of Haoles so there are a lot of members here!)
The reason I am writing, however is for professional rather than personal reasons to see whether your organization would consider donating some Haole Hubby Club items (t-shirts etc.) or even to provide some items at a lower cost to a non-profit organization called the Oregon Minority Lawyers Association (OMLA). Each year, we run an auction to raise money to provide education scholarships to minority law students to help defray the cost of studying for the Oregon bar exam. These education scholarships are based in part upon financial need and are funded by OMLA’s annual auction.
Every item contributed to the auction will help maximize a scholarship recipient’s prospects of successfully passing the Oregon state bar examination. A study undertaken by the Oregon State Bar’s Affirmative Action Program illustrated a significant difference in the pass rates of minority bar applicants and non-minority bar applicants. A lack of financial resources is one contributing factor to this difference. Therefore, education scholarships are a solution to this problem.
Your donation will be recognized in all advertisements, displays, and printed material for the event. In addition, we typically thank our donors in an advertisement in the Oregon Bar Bulletin after the event. This magazine is distributed to approximately 12,000 lawyers.
It is our hope that though our efforts the Oregon bar will become a more representative of the folks that they serve in the community.
I recognize that this is a rather informal solicitation, however I would be happy to provide you with more information, or you can view our website www.omla.homestead.com.
Thank you so much for your time and this great website! I hope to hear from you soon.
Very Truly Yours,
Akira Heshiki
OMLA Auction Co-Chair
